Defined by Christ Alone

Flowers are one of my new interests, so that is why the website looks a tad different; and joy is something I am working with the Lord to really find/have so I changed the name of my blog as well! **just thought I should share this:)

FullSizeRender.jpgI have recently taken an interest in reading books. Maybe it’s because I can appreciate the wisdom in them, or maybe it is because I’m such an old lady 😉 Either way, I find it really peaceful to just sit down and dig into a good, encouraging, God-centered book! As of yesterday, I just completed my 3rd book within a 1-2 month period–I have learned SO much and gained some new perspective on different things. The Bible, of course, will always be my favoritest (that’s not a word, but it’s my blog so today it is lol) book, but I think it is so neat how God uses people to write books and uses those books to reach millions of people all around the world.

My recent reads have been:

  • The Circle Maker by Mark Batterson
  • UnInvited by Lysa TerKeurst
  • The Mingling of Souls by Matt Chandler

A sweet friend mailed me a book for my birthday called Girl Defined. I began reading it just today and in just the first chapter, my mind was opened–which is what led me to write this blog. I love reading books about women and learning about women in the Bible. If you remember, quite a long time ago I wrote a blog on modesty (which deals with girls), and then today I felt led to write another blog dealing with girls…..maybe this is something God is trying to show me; who knows 🙂

We as girls/women are important. We have a purpose and power. We are not here to merely just exist. We were created by God and for God. This all sounds so good, and it really makes you feel special…I bet you’re even saying YEAH AMEN or PREACH GIRL!! However, we do not always feel this way because society is CONSTANTLY throwing alternate identities to us as women/girls on a daily basis, causing us to be in a 24/7 battle. The book mentions how women live by “check-lists”, which I realized was very true (especially for me). If you think about it, we each have a check-list that we live by: I need to be this skinny, check; I need to major in this to be successful, check; To be a good mom I have to do this, check; To be pretty I need to wear this kind of makeup, check; To be worth anything I need to get this many likes on my post, check. And this list goes on and on.

Imagine walking outside and out of nowhere a brick just falls and hits you—> this is what happened to me as I read about this. Because all of a sudden I realized just how much I live by a mental check-list. (I measure my worth by wanting a perfect body, long hair, to please everyone, and to have a ton of likes on my Insta posts.)

I know this blog is getting long and I apologize, but let me summarize my point in all this. If we continue to live by check-lists, we will never ever ever ever ever EVER feel good enough, worth enough, or happy/content enough. Why? Our check-lists will continually be changing. Society will always have a new standard for women/girls. It will never stay the same. One of my favorite lines from the book so far is this: “The fact that I am a woman does not make me a different kind of Christian, but the fact that I am a Christian does make me a different kind of woman.”(quote by Elisabeth Elliot). As Christian women/girls, it is vital that we do NOT live by our check-lists anymore. We must put our identity, worth in JESUS CHRIST. He made us, knows us better than anyone, has great plans for us, has a purpose for each of us, and the best thing of all; unlike society, Christ never changes. He constantly stays the same. Hebrews 13: 8, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” When we fully trust in Him and only live to please Him, then he will begin to fill us with joy, happiness, and fulfillment in Him alone!

So…do you want to be a woman that has a purpose, power, and influence? Then start by putting your worth in Christ alone and watch the world around you change 🙂

*Girl Defined showed me so much already, so I give credit to the authors and God of course! Check out this book ladies
